Maryam — Arabic and Persian form of Maria. In Iran it is also the name of a flower, the tuberose, which is named after the Virgin Mary.
From the Hebrew name Miryam. Its original meaning is debated, with “beloved,” “wished-for child,” and “bitter” the leading interpretations.
