Mariam — Form of Maria used in the Greek Old Testament, as well as the Georgian and Armenian form. It is also a variant transcription of Arabic Maryam.
From the Hebrew name Miryam. Its original meaning is debated, with “beloved,” “wished-for child,” and “bitter” the leading interpretations.
Saintly namesake: Mariam Baouardy was a 19th-century Carmelite nun from the Middle East, known for her deep spirituality and mystical experiences. She is one of several saints named Mariam. (August 26 · 19th century)
