The data
Every rank, trend, and map comes from the U.S. Social Security Administration’s public birth records — 145 years of them, 1880 through 2025, national and state by state. Spelling families, syllables, and similar-name suggestions are computed from that same corpus. Etymology research is informed by public dictionaries and encyclopedic sources, written in our own words — and when a meaning is uncertain, we say so instead of bluffing.
