Lorenzo — Italian and Spanish form of Laurentius (see Laurence). Lorenzo de' Medici (1449-1492), known as the Magnificent, was a ruler of Florence during the Renaissance. He was also a great patron of the arts who employed Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli and other famous artists.
Saintly namesake: Lorenzo Ruiz was a 17th-century Filipino saint and martyr, remembered as the first canonized saint from the Philippines. He is one of several saints named Lorenzo. (September 28 · 17th century)
